
A 3-day national-level training program on cocoa was held from 12-14 May 2025 at KAU Campus, Karshaka Bhavanam, Vellanikkara, Thrissur for the field-level implementing officials of cocoa-growing states across India, including North Eastern states, in association with Cocoa Research Centre, KAU. Dr. Jacob John, Director of
Extension, KAU, inaugurated the programme and Dr. K. N. Anith , Director
of Research , KAU, delivered the keynote address on the occasion. Dr. Femina, Director of DCCD, gave an overall review of the cocoa scenario in India and the
efforts of the Directorate in extending the area in the cocoa-growing states to increase cocoa bean production and uplift the economic status of the farming community. Around 50 participants from the states of
Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland attend
the training programme. A training manual
on cocoa cultivation was released on the occasion and distributed to the
participants as reference material for extension activities. A field visit and cocoa processing unit
visit were also arranged for the participants. Detailed classes on farm activities, the chocolate-making process, etc., were also conducted during the
training period. The programme concluded
with a valedictory function chaired by Dr. Mani Chellappan, Dean of KAU and
certificates were distributed to the participants. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by
Dr. Minimol J. S., Professor & Head, Cocoa Research Centre, KAU.
